Digital Membership Card Instructional Video: iPhone only

Think about it. They have self check out where you are!!! Do something to make it less awful, Costco! How so? No app needed. The only exception to that rule IMO is the Walgreens app. I should say the end result is awesome. I wish they had a 5 items or less line. Target does this too. You think so? They do a really good job of making it usable, especially if you use their pharmacy a lot, which I do. Are you a new Mac owner? They want you to have to actually use the app for the card so it will have a prime spot on your phone. Apples entire business model is to erode the margins of other companies that build shit to make their device popular. At every location. This is a huge burden for large organizations with technical debt, e. We need to demonstrate full compliance to Apple. So, back to Costco. I'm not sure how many would bother rolling out something like that. I am not saying it makes it better, but that is likely why. Maybe, maybe, but I really doubt it. Now you have to throw those away and get NFC locks. They can control your user experience and track alllllll that delicious data from within their apps. When I switched from android to iOS I spent forever trying to figure out how to add stuff to wallet. There are plenty of dynamic schemes for changing the barcode in their system backend if they would implement them. Makes it so much easier to stop in for only one or two packs of stuff. Like it or not, they are competing with Amazon and if they can get you to browse their app when you are bored at work instead, it helps their bottom line. The cards? That's interesting, I've never seen self checkout at a Costco Where is this magic? So, they know when you entered, the paths you took, and how long you were in each aisle. More like a big stupid barcode. Obviously every Costco has at the bare minimum the ability to read QR codes for this whole digital card thing to work in the first place.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} Half the time I enter I just flash the front of the card and use self checkout. I think Issaquah HQ had them for a bit too. There's pretty good evidence that you can put the equivalent of a Costco card's barcode into Wallet. However, there'd likely still need to be POS, etc. Check out this user-maintained wiki for helpful tips! Theoretically Apple Pay via the web would avoid separate apps. Granted, the last time I had to deal with wallet integration was 2 years ago so it could be better today. Teah, they only get suspicious if you try to split a transaction, then the scrutinize the shit out of it. Every time I see some company pushing their loyalty card for mobiles, it's just some website-into-app monstrosity that completely ignores the sleek and functional built-in system to handle cards so the company gets to tell people they have their own app. I do not understand how in I still need to go to my member page and log in before I can browse and see prices. Fair enough. Mine updates all the time! But it was such a PITA back then almost everyone I knew just decided to handle it in their app instead. No NFC. See also the iPhone Upgrade Wiki for more information. I would be ok if there was a universal way of doing this. Costco just adds onto the problem I've been trying to guess it's url scheme to access the membership code. Apparently the QR code in the app changes daily to discourage people from taking a screenshot and sharing with others. This is because they obsessively care about user experience. A more in-depth version of the rules can be found here. That way, when you do go browse online you see their app before Amazon. Anyways ended up finding a website where you can input your barcode and it spits out a wallet pass file you can import. My gym's iOS app just adds a boring barcode that they scan with a plain old laser scanner. There are so many possibilities for it. I've never seen a good one. Why change anything when you can still take cards away and add tip after the fact, especially when doing so is still seen as a "good" customer experience by restaurant owners? I doubt it. I mean, it's doable, but if you open the wallet and your app hasn't had a chance to update the barcode again it ain't gonna work. If you'd like to view their content together, click here. I don't get why Apple hasn't gone full, volume 11 on the wallet and made it useful in a million ways. Seriously, for all the things Costco does right their app is pure shit. The Wallet app doesn't support that. Lots of user templates too. Walgreens and Panera. Walmart is much bigger company than Costco and their IT shows it. Unfortunately it's kinda annoying to get into the wallet, especially if you have anything dynamic going on. That could be a whole system overhaul just to add that feature. Plus, its integration with the Wallet is seamless. I get rewards points just from my daily walking around, so I see it go up pretty much every time I open the app. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}If you have a tech question, please check out AppleHelp! They have them down in CA as well. Sam's Club also has in app checkout and hand scanners at the self-checkouts. No one checks the picture though. Try going into the card details with the card focused, tap the " Mine hadn't updated since October , but doing that just now updated the point total. The issue with that is that the QR code is dynamic and changes periodically. So they should probably get their act together and make a baseline decent app for once. Every register. Might be the difference between merely adding an item to the wallet, and actually contracting with an Apple to develop a credentialing service or tool. That said, I like Costco much better. Event submissions must be a comment in the weekly stickied megathread, or will be removed. And from my perspective, their direct competitors have this figured out far better than they have. I believe you can generate one with PassSource! Yikes, really? You can use an app called Pass2U to make a wallet pass for it. While definitely not ideal, at least the places that allow pay at the table via app with or without AP are trying. If Costco employees use their cards for back rooms or break rooms, those must be NFC compatible. And then you end up with something like this. Like you click add and it just opens up the camera and I take a picture of the back of a rewards card and well nothing happens, it just takes a picture. That said, it'd require people to have NFC capable phones, which might not be guaranteed on the Android side. Since all the products are on pallets they may even have enough location resolution to know which items you were in front of. Every entrance. Like a QR code scanner in Apple Wallet for scanning the check, and pay it this way. Just saw them for the first time at the Kirkland and Redmond warehouses. I was able to load in my dive cards, local library, IKEA, etc to name a few.
